Glamour is Final Fantasy XIV Mobile's vanity system that allows players to transform the appearance of their gear. The mobile version features a significantly streamlined glamour system compared to the PC/Console version, where glamours are permanently unlocked and can be freely changed without additional costs.
Most visible gear including weapons, shields, armor, and accessories can be glamoured. Level 1 items that serve purely cosmetic purposes and store outfits are added directly to your glamour collection.

How Glamour Works in Mobile
Unlocking Glamours
Unlike the PC/Console version, FFXIV Mobile uses a permanent unlock system:
- Use a Glamour Prism on any piece of equipment to permanently unlock its glamour version
- Once unlocked, the glamour can be freely equipped in your glamour slots without any additional cost
- Original gear items can be kept, sold, or discarded after unlocking their glamour
- Store-bought outfits and cosmetic items are automatically added to your glamour collection
Requirements and Restrictions
The mobile version maintains similar restrictions to the original:
- Character must meet the level requirement of the glamoured item
- Job/class restrictions still apply
- Gender and race restrictions remain in effect
Glamour Plates
The Glamour Plate system has been enhanced for mobile:
- 15 Glamour Plates are available by default
- Additional plates can be purchased with premium currency
- Plates can be saved and linked directly to specific jobs
- Switching between saved glamour plates is instant and can be done from anywhere
Dye System
The dye system in FFXIV Mobile works differently from PC/Console:
Permanent Color Unlocks
- Using a dye on a piece of equipment permanently unlocks that color for that specific item
- Once a color is unlocked (e.g., Dalamud Red on your Evenstar Coat), it remains freely available even after changing to other colors
- Each piece of equipment remembers all colors that have been unlocked for it
Dye Channels
- Not all gear pieces have the same number of dye channels
- Most equipment has one dye channel, while some have none
- Premium cash shop items tend to have more layered dye options with multiple channels
- The system does not support 16 different dye channels as previously rumored
Glamour Prisms
Glamour Prisms serve a different purpose in the mobile version:
- Each prism permanently unlocks one item's glamour
- Prisms are consumed upon unlocking a glamour
- Once an item's glamour is unlocked, no additional prisms are needed
- Can be obtained through:
- Grand Company Seals
- Quest rewards
- Events and Battle Pass
- Gil purchases from vendors
Quality of Life Features
FFXIV Mobile includes several improvements to the glamour system:
- No need to visit inn rooms or glamour dressers
- Glamour changes can be made from any location through the menu
- Glamour plate links persist when changing gear
- All glamour-related functions are accessible through the main menu
Obtaining Glamour Items
- Glamour-Only Items###
Many items in FFXIV Mobile exist purely as glamours:
- Level 1 cosmetic items that serve no combat purpose
- Store outfits and cash shop items
- Event rewards and promotional items
- These items are automatically added to your glamour collection upon acquisition
- Regular Equipment###
- Any equipment piece can be converted to a glamour using a Glamour Prism
- The original item does not need to be kept after unlocking its glamour
Comparison to PC/Console Version
The mobile glamour system represents a significant departure from the original:
Feature | PC/Console | Mobile |
---|---|---|
Glamour Prisms | Required for each application | One-time unlock per item |
Glamour Dresser | Required for plates | Not needed |
Storage Limit | 800 items in dresser | Unlimited unlocked glamours |
Dye Usage | Consumed on use | Permanently unlocks color |
Plate Limit | 20 plates | 15 plates (expandable) |
Location Restrictions | Inn rooms/cities only | Anywhere |
Tips
- Prioritize unlocking glamours for items you use frequently across multiple jobs
- Save rare dyes for pieces you plan to use long-term, as they permanently unlock
- Link glamour plates to specific jobs for automatic outfit changes
- Consider which items to unlock based on your available Glamour Prisms
